Modal Verbs

Modal verbs are among the most common words in German. They express
ability, desire, or compulsion to perform another action. They are like the English verbs can, may, or must. When a modal verb is used, the other action is in the end bracket.
Note the special forms of the modals following ich, er, sie, es, man:
Special Form: ich, er, sie, es, man kann
Special Form: ich, er, sie, es, man muß
Special Form: ich, er, sie, es, man will
Special Form: ich, er, sie, es, man möchte Following wir, Sie, sie (they), use the forms können, müssen, wollen, or möchten. |
