Masculine and Neuter Nouns in the Genitive Singular In the genitive singular, most masculine and
neuter nouns add a final -s. The genitive phrase, e.g. des Orients, always follows the noun it modifies, e.g. das Haus.
If the noun has only one syllable or ends in an "s"-sound, it adds an -e- before the -s.
Irregular Masculine and Neuter Nouns A certain few masculine and neuter nouns do not add a final -s in the genitive. We have seen the following ones:
Feminine Nouns in the Genitive Feminine nouns do not change their form or add an ending in the genitive. The genitive ending -er on the article signals the genitive case for both singular and plural.
