Prendre is an important verb which you will encounter in different forms in many expressions. It is conjugated as follows:

PRENDRE—"to take, to have"
 

je prends
tu prends
il, elle prend
nous prenons
vous prenez
ils, elles prennent

EXAMPLES
 

À quelle heure prenez-vous le petit déjeuner?
When will you have your breakfast?

 
Je prends un café au lait, s'il vous plaît.
I'll have a coffee with milk, please.

 
Ils prennent les clés. 
They take the keys.

Important verbs that follow this same conjugation are: comprendre "to understand"; apprendre "to learn"; reprendre "to take back"; surprendre "to surprise."



Examples of Prendre

  • Est-ce que vous prenez le petit déjeuner?
  • Je ne comprends pas. Répétez, s'il vous plaît!
  • Mes deux enfants apprennent très vite.
