En can generally be translated to mean "some of them/it" or simply "some." It is used when the noun it replaces is used with an expression of quantity, an indefinite article, or with numbers. As such, it provides a convenient short cut in the language. En generally precedes the verb.
 

Nos croissants sont délicieux.
Our croissants are delicious.
Vous en voulez?
Do you want some?
Oui, donnez-m’en deux.
Yes, give me two of them.

 
J'ai une fille.
I have one daughter.
Combien de filles avez-vous?—J'en ai deux.
How many daughters do you have?—I have two.
