Subject Pronouns

The subject can take on many different forms, as you will see in the following examples:
Personal Subject pronouns are used when the subject is a person. "He," "she," "it," and "they" are also used to replace proper names or things that have already been mentioned. The pronouns are as follows:
*The use of on is explained in another section. Click here if you wish to view this section. Subject pronouns il, elle, ils, and elles often replace nouns in a sentence:
Note that the noun "restaurant(s)" is replaced by the pronouns "it/they" as an answer to a question. In French, the same pattern takes place, although there is no form for "it." You must decide between il(s) and elle(s) when referring to things (in the case of the restaurantil). Again, it is necessary to know the gender and the number of the noun you are replacing. |
