German lassen stands in the front bracket and shifts the main infinitive to the end bracket (E.B.). It usually describes causing an action.
 

  Front Bracket     End Bracket
 
Ich lasse mir die Haare schneiden.
I’m having my hair cut.

More rarely, lassen means a failure to prevent something from happening, i.e. letting an action happen.
 

Er lässt mich nach Hause gehen.
He is letting me go home.
