Here are the months of the year—to review the yearly calendar, please consult the Basics section of the program. Note that, unlike English, months and days of the week are not capitalized in French. Also observe how the expression prendre des vacances* ("to take vacation," "to go on vacation") and possessive adjectives are used here:
 

Le premier janvier c'est le Nouvel An.
January 1st is New Year's.
Elle prend ses vacances en février.
She takes her vacation in February.
En mars le printemps arrive.
In March spring arrives.
Il prend ses vacances en avril.
He takes his vacation in April.
Le premier mai on fête la fête du travail en France.
On May 1st people celebrate labor day in France.
L'eté commence en juin.
Summer begins in June.
La fête nationale en France a lieu le quatorze juillet.
The French national holiday takes place on July 14th.
Tu prends tes vacances en août?
Do you take your vacation in August?
Je les prends en septembre.
I take it (vacation) in September.
Mes parents les prennent en octobre.
My parents take it in October.
Mon ami les prend en novembre.
My friend takes it in November.
Noël est en décembre.
Christmas is in December.

*Note that even though vacation is singular in English, vacances is always used in the plural in French.



Examples of Months

  • Mais c'est incroyable. Ce n'est pas le premier mai, pourtant!
  • Oui, c'est la fête du travail. Aux États-Unis, le Labor Day, c'est en septembre.
