In another section shows that you can ask a question using est-ce que at the beginning of a sentence. By adding qu' (que) to the same expression you have Qu’est-ce que, which means "what?"
 

Qu’est-ce que vous prenez?
What will you have?
Qu’est-ce que vous avez?
What’s wrong with you? OR: What do you have?

You may ask the same questions by inverting subject and verb, as in Que prenez-vous? ("What will you have/take?") and Qu’avez-vous? ("What’s wrong with you?").

  • Qu'est-ce que vous avez à manger?
