Assertions permit one word, phrase or clause before the front bracket. Up to now, we have seen mostly words or phrases in this position.

You may use a dependent clause in the introductory slot before the front bracket.

As you undoubtedly know, apartments are scarce.

Compare:
 

Natürlich sind Wohnungen knapp.
Of course, apartments are scarce.

As with other introductory items, you must follow the introductory slot immediately by the front bracket. Clauses are always set off by a comma, but single words in the introductory slot are not.
