Plus "more" and moins "less" are used to form comparatives of adjectives and adverbs. As in English, plus and moins come before the adjective or adverb:
 

plus vite quicker, more quickly
moins vite slower, less quickly

 
plus tranquille quieter
moins tranquille less quiet

plus grand taller
moins grand smaller, less tall

French is very consistent in its approach to forming positive comparisons in that it uses plus in all but two cases:
 

bon—meilleur good—better
mauvais—pire bad—worse

Examples of Plus and Moins

  • À Paris, on arrive plus vite par le métro, et c'est moins cher.
  • Mon frère a une voiture très élégante. La sienne est beaucoup plus élégante que la mienne.
