Both saber and conocer mean to know, but they are not used interchangeably. Saber is to know information (No sé el número de teléfono; ¿Sabe usted dónde está el restaurante?), or to know how to do something (No sabemos conducir). Conocer is to know a person (Conozco a la Sra. García; ¿Conoces a mi hermana?), or to be familiar with a place or a thing (No conocen la ciudad). Both verbs are irregular and must be memorized. SABER
